What's Happening - December 2025
It's the last newsletter of 2025! Wow!
Welcome to my monthly newsletter, giving you updates on the things I’ve been lettering, reading and writing this month.
What am I lettering?
December has been a bit slower for me on the lettering front than the last few months have been, which has honestly been a bit of a relief. From my understanding, this is a bit of a crunch period for a lot of comic creators working in the direct market, trying to make sure everything gets in before the winter holidays. But for me, since I'm mostly working on Kickstarter books? December has been a relatively chill.
My first direct market lettering work, Synap #1, showed up in comic shops toward the end of November and set the world on fire. People were out in the streets, screaming about the amazing lettering that had finally graced their comic book store shelves! Well. Not quite. But still, working with Mad Cave on this book has been a fun experience. And I hope I get the chance to do more stuff with them in the future, since I've actually pretty much wrapped up my work on this series.
Aside from that, here are a couple other cool books currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter that are worth checking out:
Tights #4
I lettered the first issue of Tights back in 2021, and it was one of my favorite projects I had ever worked on. In those first two issues, the amazing Edison Neo (who I did the short story Super Time Travel Agency with) was doing the art duties, along with Chris Waigand writing and me on lettering. The team has shifted around a bit since then, but I'm still here lettering the book, and Chris is still writing the damn thing!
In the wake of a second pandemic, the world is in chaos: economies have collapsed, crime runs rampant, and a new breed of everyday superheroes known as “Tights” have emerged.
Attempting to keep law and order amidst this chaos is OLIVER ANDREWS—an anti-Tights federal judge. But after a team of Tights called the SHADOWPACK save Oliver from a Triad hit squad, the judge now finds himself blackmailed by the very same Tights who saved his life.
Really excited about this series being back. And as this is hitting your inbox, there are only a few days left to back it. Please check it out!
Wild Wisps #3
I think I've shouted out every issue of Wild Wisps as they've come out. That's because this series rules, and it's one of my favorite things that I'm a part of. Nabetse Zitro's art, James Offredi's colors, and I'll even go so far as to say my letters, are all gorgeous. I've been doing a lot of work with Pat Shand and Space Between Entertainment this year, but Wild Wisps is the one I hope everyone takes the time to read. Here's the synopsis:
WILD WISPS is an ongoing, epic fantasy comic book series for adults about a world that humans share with incredible creatures known as Wisps. Wisps are magical monsters with elemental powers that can be either commonplace or god-like.
We follow a would-be knight, KINO and his Wisp TONKAREX. When we meet them, these two have lost everything. Their family, their purpose, and their hope. All they have left is a plan: to join QUEEN RAINA'S Guard. However, they harbor a secret that could tilt the balance of Raina's 20-Year War if it gets discovered. Kino knows the truth about a MYTHIC WISP: a special kind of Wisp born out of one million hatches that has an incredibly rare Tri-Element ability, which gives this extraordinary Wisp the power to alter reality itself. In the wrong hands, Kino's secret could lead to the end of existence as they know it.
This project is live right now on Kickstarter with just about a week left!

What am I reading?
We Called Them Giants
We Called Them Giants is a graphic novel by Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans. It's the story of a stray cat who is taken in by a loving owner. Except that the cat is the human. And the owner is an alien.
This is a gorgeous book. Everything that Stephanie Han's has ever illustrated is. The team's previous collaboration, Die, was similarly gorgeous. And like that previous collaboration, I think Hans' art is the main draw here. Her vibrant, painterly style means that every page feels like something I'd be perfectly happy ripping out and hanging up on my wall.
But the book itself isn't one I'm particularly in love with. There's not a ton to the story. It's about 100 pages, and it tries to cover a lot of ground in those pages, most of it covered through narration. I have no problem with narration (if you're reading along with Hero of Legend, you know I'm happy to use a ton of it.) But I think there is a specific type of pacing that comics can fall into when they rely only on narration. The story can end up being flat, no real quiet moments, no real loud moments. Just event after event, all given about the same amount of weight until the story comes to an end.
It's a short read, though. So even though I didn't love the story, I'd recommend checking it out even if it's just for the art alone.
What am I writing?
Last week I mailed out everything for Hero of Legend #2, and this week I'm finishing up the lettering for the last batch of pages for Chapter 3. I think this issue is some of the best stuff Niccolò and I have done so far, and can't wait for you guys to read the episode coming out in January.
For the print issue, Niccolò just finished our main cover. You'll be able to get your copy when the Kickstarter runs in February, but don't let that stop you from signing up for the prelaunch page today.
Aside from that, I've also got some fun stuff to show of from the follow up to Into the Deep, Below the Depths. Here's a sneak peak at Page 1:
It'll be a while before you all get the chance to read this one, but I'm really happy with how this project is coming together so far. I think that both my co-creator Felipe Trindade and I learned a lot from the process of creating Into the Deep, and we're channeling all of that into making Below the Depths. Really excited for y'all to get to read it.
Anything else?
Nope. See you in 2025!
